Therapist Brand Photoshoot in Malibu: Honestly Human with Kristine King

Some photoshoots just…flow.

From the first conversation to the final gallery, everything feels aligned. Like you’re both walking the same creative path.

That’s exactly how it felt working with Kristine King, the founder of Honestly Human with Kristine. She’s a therapist, healer, and guide who helps others transform generational pain into personal power and purpose.

From the moment we sat down for her brand strategy session, I knew this was going to be something special. Kristine spoke about her work with such tenderness and depth, about how her mission is to help women reconnect with their inner child, ground themselves in nature, and find peace in their own stories. There was a calm strength about her that mirrored the words she used to describe her brand: minimal, easeful, free, alive, and peaceful.

I remember thinking: She doesn’t just talk about healing. She embodies it.

The Vision

During our planning session, we built out three main storylines for her brand shoot:

Healing in Nature – capturing the transformative calm of the ocean and mountains, and how she weaves nature into her practice.

Inner Child Healing – highlighting the playful, lighthearted, yet deeply emotional side of her work.

Kristine in Action – bringing her to life as a guide, teaching, walking, and holding space for her clients in moments of release and reflection.

From flowing dresses and journals to hands on the heart and bare feet on the ground, every detail was intentional. We wanted her imagery to feel like her: soft, grounded, connected, and free.

The Photoshoot

We began the morning early at El Matador State Beach in Malibu. There’s really no better backdrop for a brand built on healing through nature. The cliffs were wrapped in a soft marine layer, the kind of dreamy coastal fog that photographers secretly hope for because it turns every frame into something cinematic.

Kristine arrived in her first look, hair and makeup perfectly done, radiating calm confidence. She came fully prepared with multiple outfits, her blanket, journals, red roses, and her signature heart-shaped stones.

We started with solo shots of Kristine on the cliffs, meditating and opening up her soul to the ocean air. There was something powerful about the stillness of that moment. Just her, the sound of the waves below, and the wind moving through her hair.

Next, we introduced the models who represented her clients. We began with Kristine gently guiding one along the coastal path, a visual metaphor for her role as a mentor and healer. Then we moved into a beautiful group meditation and journaling scene on the cliff’s edge, where she led two clients through reflection and connection exercises.

After capturing that peaceful energy up top, we made our way down to the sandy beach. This was the “Day of Play”… laughter, movement, and release. Kristine and her clients danced barefoot in the sand, embraced the waves, and then slowed down for breath-work by the shore. To close the sequence, each of them held up photos of themselves as children, a deeply emotional nod to the inner child work that Kristine weaves into her healing practice.

Once the group portion wrapped, we transitioned into solo “soul shots” of Kristine. Running freely along the waterline in a flowing white gown, reflecting in a mirror, and sitting on the sand with her Bible and roses. Each frame felt like a conversation between faith, freedom, and self-acceptance.

For the final chapter of the day, we relocated inland to the hiking trail above Camarillo Grove Park. The golden light filtering through the trees gave everything a grounded, earthy feel, the perfect contrast to the coastal morning. Here, we captured quiet detail moments: close-ups of her journal and heart-shaped stones, her hands resting on a tree trunk, her arms gently wrapped around it in connection, and soft nature portraits among the oak leaves.

As we wrapped, we hugged and just stood there for a second… both of us knowing we’d created something truly special. The day flowed with ease, every moment unfolding exactly as it was meant to. It was one of those rare sessions where preparation met presence, and magic happened.

The Result

When Kristine received her final gallery, she shared one of the most heartfelt reviews I’ve ever received. The kind that stops you in your tracks.

“I recently had the honor to hire and work with Jaclyn for a re-brand photography shoot session for my therapy and wellness brand and Jaclyn was such a gem to work with from start to finish! She is a true professional and master at her craft. We met in person to discuss the details and vision for my re-brand and my business. She took the time to get to know my business and me personally as a person, she gave me such great feedback, ideas, and suggestions throughout the brainstorming and the photoshoot itself! She went above and beyond to capture the vision I had for my brand. I was so happy and enjoyed the whole process with Jaclyn and felt supported the whole way through. Upon receiving my new photos and updating my professional website and Instagram I was able to book 5 new dream clients within a short period of time!

She gave me and my brand the reboot and rebrand that I was much needing…”

and I am so grateful for her and definitely recommend her work and will be working with her again in the future!”

Her words genuinely brought me to tears. What she might not realize is that she was actually my dream client.

She trusted me completely. She came prepared, participated wholeheartedly, and brought her full self to the process. Every decision, every prop, every scene… she met it all with intention and joy.

Why This Shoot Meant So Much

As a brand photographer, I’ve learned that the most powerful images come when a client lets go of perfection and leans into presence. Kristine did exactly that. She didn’t perform, she felt. She embodied her message, and that’s what made this session unforgettable.

I left that day feeling so grounded and grateful. Not just because the images turned out beautifully (though, they really did 😉), but because it reminded me why I do this work. When trust, intention, and creativity align like that, it’s not just a photoshoot. It’s storytelling in its purest form.

Kristine’s brand, Honestly Human, is a reflection of everything that’s real and raw about the human experience, and I’m honored to have helped her bring that to life visually.
